Gratitude as a Practice
Tomorrow, September 21st, is World Gratitude Day. Originating in Hawaii, this special day began in 1965 when a gathering of people from around the globe decided to set aside a day to give thanks for various blessings. Join me and Virtualness as we celebrate gratitude from September 21st to October 21st.
I'm going to embark on a 31-day journey of exploring Gratitude as a Practice. This project all started when I realized that I've been neglecting the simple joy of being in my studio, freely making marks without any pressure to create sellable art. I noticed how unhappy I was and decided to use brain science and flip my experience into something more positive and productive.
What's special about this gratitude practice is that you don't have to be an artist or create a masterpiece. Instead, it taps into the power of neuroplasticity, our brain's amazing ability to adapt and grow. As you doodle and reflect on gratitude, you're forging new connections, giving your brain a much-needed workout. So, no need to worry about crafting a flawless masterpiece; just enjoy the process and the space you create for exploration.

Engaging in daily mindfulness practices, like this gratitude practice, can have profound benefits. They promote a sense of calm in our nervous system, foster creative problem-solving, and support the brain's ability to change. These practices can even boost cognitive function, like memory, focus, and creativity. They don't take up much time, but their effects last throughout the day and beyond. They really make a difference!
So remember, it's not about how good your drawing is. It's about taking a moment to appreciate all the things and wiring your brain to a more thankful mindset. Whether you choose to reflect silently, draw along, or create your own gratitude images over the next 31 days, you're taking steps towards developing a practice that, I promise, will change you!
